Why can't FFC cable and FPC cable replace each other?

Many people ask whether FFC cable and FPC can replace each other? Actually, friends who ask like this must not be very familiar with this industry. In the present or for a considerable period of time in the future, neither ffc nor fpc cable can replace each other. These two types of cables will coexist and complement each other. Many friends, even some who have not been involved in the field of ffc wiring for a long time, do not agree with our conclusions. Let's analyze them one by one:

The process of FFC cable and FPC cable is significantly different. FFC flexible cable is formed by pressing a set of flat copper wires arranged at a specific spacing under a high-temperature wheel with two layers of hot melt PET or PI adhesive film on top and bottom, while FPC cable is formed by etching different circuit structures on a PI film covered with copper film.

1、The complexity of the circuit structure of ffc cable and fpc cable is different. Obviously, for complex curved line structures, FPC cable is the preferred choice, while FFC cable can only form some straight lines. When forming complex curved line structures, it is necessary to choose FPC ribbon cables. Relatively speaking, FPC cables are softer than FFC cables.  Application: Smartphone double-sided FPC soft ribbon cable

2、The temperature resistance of ffc cable and fpc cable is different. The ffc cable made of PET based hot melt adhesive film has a temperature resistance of only 80 ℃ or 105 ℃, while the ffc cable made of PI based hot melt adhesive film can withstand a temperature of 120 ℃. But FPC cables can withstand temperatures above 200 ℃. Therefore, FPC cables are more heat-resistant than FFC cables.  If we only look at the above two points, it seems that FPC cable can instantly kill FFC cable. Faced with the powerful functions of FPC cable, FFC cable seems to have a way to the grave. Is this really the case? Not really! Please continue reading the following two points:

3、The cost of FFC cable and Fpc cable is different. FPC cable lines can be designed with curved or straight line structures, but no matter how simple the FPC cable line structure is, each specification requires a mold to be made, and ordinary ones have a regular price. A higher price with slightly higher precision. If the customer has higher requirements for dimensional accuracy, the price will be higher. For price details, please consult customer service. And ffc cable does not require any molds, which saves a lot of cost.

4、The efficiency of FFC cable and FPC cable is different. The production efficiency of FFC cable is very high, while FPC cable has a lower efficiency compared to FPC cable due to its more complex process and multiple steps. Moreover, if it is a simple curve structure, it is possible to solve the problem of broken lines for ffc wiring, and there is no need to make it into fpc wiring.  Line processing printer ffc ribbon cable

5、FFC cable and FPC cable have different conductor materials. The conductor of FPC cable is etched on the entire layer of copper foil, and the thickness of copper foil is generally 12U, 18U, and 35U for single panel copper foil; The thickness of double-sided copper foil is 12U, 18U, 35U, and 70U. Therefore, for single panel FPC cables, the maximum thickness of copper foil can only be 35U. The conductor thickness of the ffc cable can reach 35U, 50U, and 100U. If the terminal demand side wants the conductor to pass a larger current, the impedance of the conductor must be small, and a conductor with a larger cross-sectional area must be used. However, it is generally not possible to want the conductor to be too far away. In this way, the relatively thick conductor of the FFC cable can show advantages. In summary, currently neither ffc cable nor fpc cable can replace each other. They will coexist for a long time and serve the function of connecting everything well.
